We spend on average a third of our lives in it, and yet... we often forget to pamper our bed as it deserves. Sleeping in clean, fresh, and pleasantly scented sheets is not a luxury, but a true act of well-being. Because yes, a well-maintained bed directly contributes to more restorative sleep, waking up feeling better, and even better health.
Here are all our tips for keeping your bed fresh as morning dew, day after day 🌿

1. Start by airing out the room every day
It might seem trivial, but airing out your room for 10 to 15 minutes a day is one of the most effective ways to maintain a healthy bed. By renewing the air, you get rid of humidity, odors, sweat accumulated overnight, and most importantly: you eliminate dust mites.
Little bonus: take advantage of this moment to shake your duvet and pillows out the window, to naturally de-wrinkle them and allow the textile fibers to breathe. You'll see, just doing that already gives the impression of a "brand new" bed ✨
2. Washing: not just any way!
A fresh bed necessarily means clean sheets. The basic rule: wash them regularly and at the right temperature.
- For most sheets (cotton, percale, linen), washing at 40°C is perfectly sufficient to remove dirt, sweat, and allergens. It's also gentler on the fibers in the long term.
- For thicker or more resistant materials (like flannel fitted sheets, pillowcases, or mattress protectors), you can go up to 60°C for a deep clean.
🧼 Attention! Always check the label before washing. A delicate material? Opt for a delicate cycle to avoid damaging your laundry.
3. A natural scent for your laundry, for good-smelling nights
There’s nothing more pleasant than falling asleep in fresh-smelling sheets. To naturally scent your laundry, several tips are available to you:
- Add a few drops of lavender, lemon, eucalyptus, or tea tree essential oil to your washing machine (dilute in fabric softener or white vinegar).
- Use scented white vinegar as a natural fabric softener. It eliminates odors, softens fibers, and is gentle on sensitive skin.
This small gesture transforms the atmosphere of your room and instantly immerses you in a sensation of cleanliness and relaxation 💆
4. Between washes: homemade fabric spray
Don't have time (or are too lazy 😅) to wash your sheets? No problem! A good homemade fabric spray can revive their freshness, neutralize odors, and give you a little burst of happiness every time you lie down.
Simple homemade recipe:
- 200 ml of water
- 1 tablespoon of rubbing alcohol
- 10 drops of essential oil (lavender, lemon, or tea tree)
Shake everything well in a spray bottle and lightly spray on your sheets, duvet, or even curtains. In addition to delicately scenting, some essential oils help relax and promote sleep 😴
5. And of course… change your sheets regularly
This is basic: to keep your bed fresh, you need to change your sheets regularly. Even if you don't necessarily see the dirt with the naked eye, sheets accumulate sweat, dead skin cells, dust, and dust mites over the course of nights.
👉 Ideally, change them every 1 to 2 weeks. But in summer or when it's hot, it's recommended to change them every 5 to 7 days.
Pillowcases, in direct contact with your face and hair, can even be changed twice a week for perfect hygiene 💁♀️
🧼 In summary: a fresh bed is simple with the right habits
- Air out your room every day
- Wash your sheets at 40 or 60°C depending on the material
- Naturally scent your laundry (essential oils, vinegar)
- Spray a homemade fabric spray between washes
- Change sheets every 5 to 10 days depending on the season
Your bed becomes a true cocoon of freshness, perfect for peaceful, soft, and restorative nights 🌙
